Wie kann es ander sein?

"How can it be otherwise?" is a publication created in the Studio Culture and Identity in 2022. It is focusing on the societal portrayal of women and the experience of growing up and living as a person identified as female and/or queer. We explored these themes through five distinct works, which we compiled into this publication, reflecting on a society shaped by patriarchal violence.

Publication

The publication is designed to be read from two perspectives. From one side, it is interpreted from a position of resignation, while from the other direction, it reflects optimism. Two projects embody optimism and two embody resignation. The fifth project, dealing with anger, serves as the pivotal point of the book. It is positioned in the center and thus connects both perspectives. Given that each person has a unique connection to these projects, and especially considering the significant role of personal experiences and subjective perceptions in our theme, we chose to accompany each project with a commentary. This approach highlights the complexity and multifaceted nature of the theme. In 2024, we had the opportunity to showcase our magazine at the exhibition „The F*Word“ at the Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe (MKG) Hamburg.

Exhibition and Reading

For the exhibition BACK\SLASH on the theme of patriarchal violence, we had the opportunity to reimagine our magazine and install it in a physical space. We made the magazine more immersive with large prints of editorial texts and a reading corner. Additionally, we hosted a reading to further engage the audience.
